Allyship

As our world becomes more accepting of broader and more diverse identities, you may have questions about how you can better support the LGBTQ+ community, or what LGBTQ+ even stands for. Every person has their own journey in understanding what it means to support LGBTQ+ people, whether youโ€™re LGBTQ+ or not.

Steps to Being a Good Ally

1. Gender and name people correctly.

2. Correct other people.

3. Educate yourself: your queer friend is not your queer dictionary. Use resources like this instead.

4. Educate others.

5. Remember that love is greater than understanding.

What are Pronouns?

In English, whether we realize it or not, people frequently refer to us using pronouns when speaking about us. Often, when speaking of a singular human in the third person, these pronouns have a gender implied โ€” such as โ€œheโ€ to refer to a man/boy or โ€œsheโ€ to refer to a woman/girl. These associations are not always accurate or helpful.

Understanding Pronouns

This guide is created to help anyone learn how to use peopleโ€™s correct pronouns. Everyone in your school community should engage in learning, educating, and advocating for the inclusive use of pronouns for all.

Gender-Inclusive Classrooms

A gender-inclusive school makes certain that regardless of oneโ€™s gender identity or gender expression, students are included, respected and supported in all aspects of the school environment without restriction or limitation of any kind.
